JobTrail Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 30, 2026 ยท Applies to JobTrail version 1.2.1

JobTrail is a free Chrome extension for saving job listings and tracking applications, notes, and upcoming interviews. It does not require a JobTrail account.

Information the extension handles

JobTrail handles the job information you enter, select, or choose to extract: job titles, companies, locations, listing URLs, descriptions, application statuses and dates, personal notes, interview dates and times, and reminder preferences. Notes may contain personal information you choose to include.

The extension reads open tab titles and URLs to show the source-tab selector and follow the active webpage in the side panel. It reads page content when you initiate automatic filling or manual text capture and approve any requested site access. It does not read Chrome's browsing-history database or collect information from pages for advertising or analytics.

How information is used and stored

This information is used to provide the tracker, source-tab selection, saved descriptions, search/filter/sort functions, backups, and interview reminders. Saved jobs and the preferred page size remain in local Chrome extension storage in your browser profile on your device. Unsaved form drafts and capture results are retained in session storage during the browser session. Chrome alarms and notifications are used for reminders.

JobTrail does not provide cloud synchronization. It does not add its own encryption to locally stored records or exported backup files. Access to your device, Chrome profile, and backup files is your responsibility.

Sharing and developer access

JobTrail does not transmit saved job details, personal notes, or interview information to the developer or a JobTrail server. The extension contains no advertising or analytics service. The developer does not have remote access to your locally stored job records. JobTrail does not sell user data or use it for advertising, profiling, or purposes unrelated to its job-tracking features.

When you click an original listing link, the destination website receives the information normally involved in opening its page. Those websites operate under their own privacy policies.

Exports, imports, and deletion

When you request an export, JobTrail creates a JSON backup or CSV file containing your saved jobs, including notes and descriptions. These files are downloaded to your device and are not automatically uploaded by the extension. Imported JSON data is read into your local tracker. Anyone you share an export with can read its contents.

You can edit or delete individual jobs in JobTrail. Removing the extension removes its local extension storage; it does not delete backup files you have downloaded or data you have shared elsewhere. Saved records remain until you delete them, remove the extension, or clear the applicable browser data.

Optional donations

The Support JobTrail link opens PayPal in a new tab only when you click it. Donations are optional and unlock no features. JobTrail does not collect payment-card details, process payments, or receive payment information inside the extension. PayPal processes donations under its own terms and privacy policy. The PayPal account holder may receive the transaction and payer information that PayPal normally makes available for a donation.

Limited use

JobTrail's use of information obtained through Chrome APIs is limited to providing its disclosed job-saving and application-tracking features, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Changes and support

This policy will be updated when JobTrail's functionality or data-handling practices change. For questions about the extension or this policy, use the Support tab on JobTrail's Chrome Web Store listing. Information you choose to send through a support channel is governed by that channel's policies and is separate from the local job records held by the extension.
